4 Course Levels of Dog Behavior

Each dog gets a unique curriculum based on their behavioral needs. Dogs are assigned a level based on several factors. To learn about the 4 colored levels keep reading!

Green

Minimum 3 week course

For learning new helpful behaviors or unlearning harmless behaviors there are endless possibilities!

Would you  like your dog to know…

This owner enjoys a very active life and wants to take her dog everywhere with her and have him behave. Here he is walking past a restaurant at busy dinner time entirely off-leash and under control.

Purple

Minimum 3 week course

For unlearning harmful behaviors where no aggression is directed towards other animals or humans.

Is your dog…

This sweet girl came to us because she had tripped her owner several times on walks, and would pull like crazy. Now she walks nice, and her owner enjoys taking her for walks. It is no longer a chore to walk her dog.

Red

Minimum 4 week course

For unlearning harmful behaviors where aggression is directed towards other animals or humans.

Is your dog…

This pitbull mix came to us with leash reactivity issues and wanting to pull badly on the leash. You can see her before the video above and after walking nicely with another dog and behaving when other dogs go by and listening in a busy environment during kids’ recess.

Black

Minimum 6 week course

For dogs who have severely injured another animal or human

Has your dog…

We limit these courses to 2 dogs maximum at any point due to the demanding nature of these courses. These dogs are exclusively handled by either Kristi or Otto during their dog training course.

A Typical Day on Campus

What to Bring on the First Day

6:30 -7:30

Wake up call! Everyone wakes up and goes potty. Then they get their breakfast. After they eat each dog gets 30 minutes of rest and time to digest their food. We do this 30 minute food digest period, to prevent the dogs from bloating.

8:00 - 9:00

Pack walks and individual walks! If your dog is social and likes other dogs, they will get the chance to go on a pack walk (either on leash or off leash depending on where they are in our training program). If your dog struggles with aggressive behavior towards other dogs, they will take an individual walk.

9:00 - 12:00

During this time, dogs attend small group classes or work alone on individual behaviors.

Perfectly “placed” puppy at the campground! Thank you so much to You and Your Dog LLC! After Jack’s week at Stay and Train, he is the best behaved dog!

Owner

12:00 - 1:00

Lunch break! If your dog gets a lunch meal, they will get their meal and take an afternoon rest period.

1:00 - 5:00

Your dog will attend the “lecture hall” with all of their classmates and work in large group classes. If a dog isn’t able to work with other classmates, they continue learning in individual lessons. During this period, we also go on our “outings.” We believe in taking your dogs out to as many places as possible, so they learn they have to listen anywhere we receive them. During this time they also learn how to behave for car rides too!

5:00 - 6:00

Dinner time! Your dog will have worked hard for their dinner meal! They get fed and then take a short break to let their food digest.

6:00 - 7:00

The dogs get to go on a pack hike through the state park, or a solitary walk while focusing on their obedience and proper behavior.

7:00 - 8:30

Social hour! After a hard day of work, we allow the dogs who are appropriate for play to have social time to play with each other. We believe the dogs should get a chance to unwind and have some fun at the end of the day after all their hard work!

8:30 - 9:30

Bedtime! All of the dogs go to bed with a special bedtime snack. Most of the pups get a frozen peanut butter kong (diet allowing), then they are out!

Monday through Saturday. Sunday’s we give the dogs’ a break for half of the day. They work until noon, and then they are on break the remainder of the day to rest for the upcoming week.

FAQs

Admission process

Please contact us by phone or email and our professional dog trainers will be able to help you identify which one of our programs fits you and your dog’s training goals.

Enrolling your dog in our school has never been easier. You may begin by online by submitting the form on this page or giving us a call. Our pack members will guide you through the rest of the process from there.

Priority is given to those who sign up first, and owners who we feel will follow through with the training.

You are welcome to submit a new application. Most denial letters are due to classes being full.

After you receive your acceptance letter, you have three business days to accept enrollment into the program by making your initial deposit on the course. Our office manager will assist you in scheduling your dog’s training course start date based on your preference and availability. Then we make sure we have all the required medical documents and waivers signed and copied so on the first day of school it’s smooth sailing.

Please contact our office manager to confirm any new vaccines. However, Rabies, Parvovirus, Distemper all must be currently vaccinated.Your dog will also need to be on a flea and worm preventatives.

Behavior Evaluations

Every dog and owner that is interested in signing up must schedule a behavior evaluation. There is a 30-minute interview with you and your dog, where a trainer will sit down and talk to you about what types of training you want to accomplish with your dog. Then discuss different packages for you to choose for your dog.

A behavior evaluation allows us to see what behavior you are looking to focus on while your dog is at school. We want to make sure that we set up attainable goals for you and your dog.

We ask that every owner prepares a behavior wish list to bring to their behavior evaluation. A behavior wish list is a list of behaviors you would like your dog to address. For example: jumping on new people, darting out the door, chasing cars, barking at other dogs on walks, etc. The more we know about your dog, the more we can help!

They can be scheduled Monday through Friday.

You and your dog of course as well as our trainers.

All behavior evaluations are $30 and are 30 minutes in length!

Two dogs are getting to enjoy the freedom of being off-leash and have the reliability of recalling back when asked to come back!

This owner enjoys taking her dog out for lunch, but previously she would have horrible begging habits and be left at home. Now she knows how to behave and can go out to eat at dog-friendly restaurants!

We frequently have puppy social days were to allow puppies to come and have a safe, monitored, and structured social day. These training days are so important, so they do not develop dog aggression issues as they grow up.
